Notre Dame Crusaders keen to hold on to Silverware
Tuesday 16th March 2010
The Notre Dame Crusaders will, this weekend, look to defend the University Challenge title that they won last year after being undefeated in last year’s tournament.
The University Challenge is an annual rugby tournament held at the University of Western Sydney’s Hawkesbury Campus which invites University-based sides from across the state with the winner claiming the Laffan Cup.
The Crusaders will be one of eight sides contesting the Cup, and will be eager to repeat last year’s dominant performances, against other strong teams including the University of Newcastle, the University of Wollongong and Macquarie University.
Crusaders Coach Kevyn Halbert is optimistic about the team’s chances.
“There is no reason that we can’t repeat last year’s dose of brilliance and come away with the cup,” said Halbert, “if anything the changes to the squad in the off-season have made us an even more threatening force.”
“Though that being said, there are some very good sides in this competition and we will have to play our best if we are to come out on top.”
